Taps
A single dripping tap that would take minutes to fix can waste up to 10,000 litres of water a year ─ enough water for 125 loads of washing*
You don’t need to put up with dripping taps. Inexpensive replacement tap washers and a few minutes of your time are all you need to solve the problem, and avoid thousands of litres of water going down the drain.
Getting the most out of taps
Don’t leave taps running. Pop the plug in. You can brush your teeth, wash your hands or shave with less than half a litre of water. Simply wet your toothbrush before you begin, turn the tap off and rinse your mouth when you have finished brushing
A leaking tap dripping at one drip per second will waste 10,000 litres of water a year. Fixing the leaking tap washer will take just minutes.
Aerators fitted into tap nozzles add air to the water coming from taps to reduce water use, while still giving a full-bodied flow. These easy-to-install (no plumber needed) tap aerators save water while washing hands or brushing teeth.
By putting flow restrictors and tap aerators in your kitchen and bathroom taps, you can reduce your water consumption in those rooms by up to 50 per cent without losing water pressure.
How to fix a leaking tap
Fixing a leaking tap is easier than you think. Kits available from Bunnings and other major hardware stores will tell you, step by step, how to do the job and provide the tools you need. But don’t forget to turn the water off at the main first!
Flow restrictors and aerators are easy to install. There are two types: either fitted to the outlet of the faucet, or installed inside it.
