Bathroom tips

Households use more water in the bathroom than anywhere else inside the house.

bathroom overviewMany of us take water for granted. Nowhere is it easier to waste, and save, water than in the bathroom. Leaving taps running while we brush our teeth or shave, and taking long showers and deep baths can use hundreds of litres of water per person a day.

Being efficient with water is easy and anyone can start saving water right now.

And the water we let run away down the plug hole can also be put to further use, with a few simple steps.

But that’s not all. Bathrooms can consume more electricity than they need to. So why not make the bathroom a project for saving time, money and resources?

Tips for a Climate Smart bathroom.

  • Fix those leaking taps, as dripping taps waste water
  • Plan to use less water in the bath or shower; it can be as simple as using a timer to remind you
  • Save water by changing your routine when you shave or brush your teeth
  • By making your own simple and effective bathroom cleaners you can send fewer chemicals down the drain
  • To cool the bathroom down, do you switch on the exhaust fan, or just open a window?
  • Lowering the temperature of your hot water even a few degrees saves energy and money, yet still ensures you have safe hot water
  • You can heat your bathroom effectively if you use the right heating, and switch it on only when you need it
  • Lose the loo blues; installing a dual flush cistern saves water, while plumbing greywater to your toilet re-uses rinse water from your washing machine
